Aluminium sand casting

Producing the connector components in metal aligned with the goal of developing durable, modular hardware for coppiced timber.

An initial wax-cast prototype of a threaded ball-joint insert in gilding metal led to exploring aluminium sand casting as a method for small-scale production.

This exploration was supported by Six Dots Design, who provided access to materials and equipment.

Working with sand moulds offered a relatively low-cost and flexible setup, allowing iterations to be cast from 3D-printed patterns using recycled aluminium.
